Covers

I was having a discussion with a friend about cover models and when it's okay to feature a model that another publication just featured. He says, "Suki, it's okay to feature this model even if he/she just came out. Your release is months apart and heck, everyone does it." The December Hollywood Issue of Vanity Fair had Keira Knightley on the cover and she appears again in the May issue of US Vogue.

Even if everyone does it, does it mean it's ok? I know it's all about execution, but I have this huge discomfort about copying cover models.

Your thoughts?

While we're still on the topic of covers, I came across something interesting. Check out how the cover of Vogue has evolved.

  • I don't see putting a guy/girl on one mag's cover even if he/she has recently appeared in another mag cover as "copying."

And I don't think it's about everyone doing it. I mean, you won't do it just because everyone's doing it, right?

It's more about believing that that person deserves to be on the cover of the magazine. I mean if you think that that person has the qualities of previous cover boys/girls, then who cares if he/she has appeared in a million other mags?

    That's just me.

That's a nice collection of Vogue covers, ah. Where did you get it???

You should read "Front Row: Anna Wintour." She has really changed US Vogue covers.

Friend, where as previous editors-in-chief like Diana Vreeland or Grace Mirabella was all about placing very ladylike, very glam covers, Anna Wintour shocked the fashion world with her first cover.

Israeli model Michaela Bercu wearing a Christian Lacroix couture top and regular jeans. (Jeans on the cover of VOGUE??? It was scandalous for Mirabella and previous editors.)

You already knew she was REALLY going to change everything. Taray!!!
